But like, what if you could have eternal life and beauty? This play tackles this difficult question with humanity, complex nuance, and authenticity in such a way that will break your heart and leave you wanting more more more. A gorgeous two-hander, I'm aching to see it staged.

Absolutely adored this play. The realistic dialogue, the small inspection of what is an extremely large question-- would immortality actually be worth it? I fell in love with Gina and David, and was ultimately very satisfied with how things were left at the end of the play. A very character driven piece that would present an electrifying challenge to two talented actors.

I just streamed the gorgeous world premiere production of this play at Know Theatre, and this play is even more electric on stage than it is on the page. A tight, thought-provoking two-hander, 'Kairos' offers an intimate glimpse into the life of one couple as they live, love, and grieve during the invention of "a cure for death." It's a consistently funny, character driven piece that gets to the heart of so many human fears, presenting a fascinating "what if" that will have audiences talking, dreaming, and debating long after 'end of play.'

Immortality is one of sci-fi's greatest thought experiments. Is living forever a curse? A blessing? Dring's play explodes that experiment by condensing our focus down to two partners in a budding relationship having to confront these very questions, as they find themselves in a world about to dramatically change. It's a fantastic, thought-provoking piece, and the world-building perfectly compliments the romantic dramedy at hand. Quite literally, this is a poem for the ages.

Amazing piece that starts as an unassuming glimpse into the meeting and relationship of Gina and David and transforms into a poignant, lyrical meditation on mortality (and immortality), marriage, and connection. I really enjoyed the ways that the speculative fiction details were woven throughout the text and how an entire imagined reality for the future of our world was rendered with just two characters! Additionally, the visual and textual metaphors were rich, layered, and subtle. I'd so love to see this play in production.

Wow. At first this starts as a relationship play. A great one, as the characters are distinct and likeable, but it becomes so much more than that. It becomes a poem about love. About life. About time itself. I will be thinking about this play for a while.

Selected for Angels Theatre Company's 2022-23 Salon Reading Series.
Lisa Sanaye Dring’s sparse and poetic drama Kairos is an unconventional play for a weighty subject. Using only two characters, Dring explores identity, grief, and loss through the lens of a new relationship in a near future sci-fi world where eternal life is suddenly possible. The play is a powerful example of how simple, well-wrought characters in the theatre can be used to explore complex ideas and provoke thought and compassion in an audience.
