A visceral and emotional monologue that gives the reader (and listener) both a history lesson and a theatrical event. The playwright brings Mary Mallon to life in ways that are both enlightening and unsettling.

I know a monologue is well written when - while reading - I'm able to actually experience it. And hear it. And long to see it performed by a capable, engaging actress. When "Between Hellgate and Long Island Sound" finally gets a production, I hope that the playwright, Nora Louise Syran, will give me a heads up! Kudos!

Would love to see this monologue performed on stage. Injected with plenty of emotion and the flow is incredibly engaging.

Truth is often stranger than fiction, and in the case of this rich monologue, the truth is, indeed, incredibly nuanced and convoluted. There is plenty of emotion for a strong actor to play with here, and audiences will be equally engaged by the content and the performance. How much truth is there to Mary's story, and how much was sensationalized and blown out of proportion? Despite the fact that this is "local history" for me, I found that I learned a lot - a hallmark of Nora's plays is that they're consistently educational! What a complex, thought-provoking monologue!

This is an interesting monologue that incorporates a bit of History, which is fascinating for me!
