Recommendations of Doughnut Disturb

  • Paul Smith: Doughnut Disturb

As someone who has written a few 'bench' plays, this is a cracking example of one. In just ten minutes Robert Weibezahl creates two believable characters with a current and backstory and a scenario which is unforced and satisfying. Wonderfully comic and beautifully written. A gem!

This play is sweet and delectable (no pun intended) with plenty of opportunity for two great actors to devour.

  • Donald E. Baker: Doughnut Disturb

A man on the spectrum meeting his childhood bully could go so wrong. In this lovely little play it goes very right. As savory as pizza and as sweet as doughnuts, the dialogue gives both actors a lot to delve into. Great work.

As far as I’m concerned, you can’t go wrong with donuts and pizza! And Robert Weibezahl proves the point wonderfully. This play starts out so bizarrely funny with the somewhat unusual Colin encroaching on the park bench where Dominic is seated. The unwelcome conversation is at first hilarious, but the mood suddenly shifts. And out of a painful past experience comes understanding and acceptance. A beautifully told story ready for an audience.

A word of warning: don't read this play when hungry! Donuts and pizza! This two-hander with twenty something men is strange and delightful. Colin is weird when he approaches Dominic waiting for the train. Finally we learn that they knew each other in school and in the end, both come to terms with their past lives.

Mr. Weibezahl, you had me at Doughnut Disturb, but if you feel you must write something after the title...very well. An exquisitely crafted short play about two men, as opposite as can be, who had a defining moment in high school. A smart take on bullying and how our words and actions matter. You'll fall in love with Colin and understand Dominic, and will also be very hungry for doughnuts and pizza. Read and produce it right away!

What a moment. Two “strangers” talk - worlds apart. Just when audiences want to put both of these characters in boxes, WEIBEZHAL gives us deeper layers to explore. A lovely moment.

A conversation starts out weirdly and ends compassionately in this delightful short play. You will surely like the development of the new-found relationship between Colin and Dominic. (Or is it "new-found?" You have to read the play to find out.) Mr. Weibezahl's deft construction leaves us wanting to know more about these characters, and I also have a sudden urge for a Dunkin Munchkin.
