Recommendations of THE WITCH TRIAL OF MARGERY

  • Paul Donnelly: THE WITCH TRIAL OF MARGERY

This is the stirring story of the victory of reason and compassion over falsehoods and fears. The contemporary resonance makes it all the more compelling. Would that reason and compassion would so triumph in our age. Both Margery and Harvey are well drawn and sympathetic characters. Robert is well drawn but not so sympathetic. He is an excellent comic foil down to his final line.

  • Morey Norkin: THE WITCH TRIAL OF MARGERY

Reading this in light of the recent lies about pet eating and the resulting dangers to a community, I found this to be a timely cautionary tale. In this case, reason prevails. Adam Richter presents an immensely entertaining dialogue between the vulnerable Margery and the kindly Dr. Harvey. Definitely deserving of a wider audience.

  • Julie Zaffarano: THE WITCH TRIAL OF MARGERY

"The Witch Trial of Margery" shows that rumors and falsehoods can be conquered by reason. It is also a reminder that very often reason and facts are ignored and hysteria take their place. Adam Richter makes us care for Margery and breath a sigh of relief in her behalf. Well done.

  • Steven G. Martin: THE WITCH TRIAL OF MARGERY

Adam Richter has grounded "The Witch Trial of Margery" in a very specific time and location, but its plot and themes seem -- unfortunately -- timeless: Science, reason, and objective evidence battle against hearsay, rumors, and fools who believe lies to remain in favor of a ruler.

This is a heroic play, a bloody and visceral play, a play about empathy and understanding set in a time when it would be easy to have neither. [24/10/07]

  • Philip Middleton Williams: THE WITCH TRIAL OF MARGERY

If this really was based on a true story, I'm sure Adam Richter told it better than some dry old history book. He shared it with me in a reading with friends and I loved the pacing and the witty dialogue, making it primed for a production of an immortal Monty Python scene from "The Crucible." The allegorical theme is a spot-on take on rumor-mongering and fake news. Huzzah! (10/06/24)

  • Kelly McBurnette-Andronicos: THE WITCH TRIAL OF MARGERY

Not your typical witch hunt! Richter upends the genre with their own unique and anachronistic take. Cheeky and charming, this play would be a lot of fun for any short play festival. Wonderful roles, too! Give it a read.
