I was there for the reading by the National Theatre Conference when this play was honored with the Stavis Award for 2025 directed by Janet Hayatshahi. It's a beautiful, haunting play with so much to work and play with (terrific reading). The relationship between the son and his mother is complex and funny and ultimately heart-wrenching. And the two "dramaturgs" who demand changes and play out the scenes in their very theatrical way ultimately do bring the son/writer to something greater. Wow!

This play is going to stay with me for a long time. A play about writing an honest story while also trying to appeal to audiences. This play says a lot about the modern theatre and the gatekeepers who decide which stories should be told. This play really surprised me and gave me an ending lacking a neat resolution. More plays that ask these kinds of questions need to be produced.
