I've read Soul Magnet, seen a reading, and will see a full production in Spring of 2025. The piece continues to evolve and deepen. The audience is brought in by the absurdity of it all - Blue Dolphins, second and third first-times, ghosts, and hats. But what keeps the audience involved is the way the characters shift between the mundane and the mythic. It's also a director's playground, as the stories within it can be spun in so many different ways.

This play is a rollercoaster. And I love roller coasters. Futrell wraps you in, utilizing the setting as a pressure cooker for emotional exploration, while leaving you laughing at the world he is spinning in front of you. This is a captivating read and I would love to see this show performed.

The existential horrors of a late night shift at the bar coupled with the dread of never knowing when (or if) you're gonna make it out of this industry alive, culminate in a rich and tantalizing tale of spooky birds, Irish folklore, and drunken sailors on their voyage to a livable income.
