Durbin captures America in microcosm in this funny and ultimately very moving piece. Elections and politics obviously have the capacity to create rifts. What I especially love about this piece is the way it shows people overcoming their differences and coming together in genuine ways. Every moment feels natural and organic, and we never fail to root for these characters to find their moments of connection. We have never been more in need of this optimistic play.

overgrown takes the seemingly-mundane world of local mid-term elections and brings together titanic emotions and obstacles. The intergenerational divide, the gender divide, romance, politics, and the alienation between a father and child to name a few of the things this play explores in the span of one election day. Featuring an ensemble of at times zany characters, Emma Durbin is attempting--and succeeding--in threading that elusive needle of reaching across the political spectrum.

Who knew a play about local elections would be such an emotional rollercoaster! This is a play theaters NEED to be producing right now-- extremely current and the show masterfully navigates important questions that we are asking as a society right now. The perfect ensemble play. I was so invested in the lives of all of the characters Emma created.

A fantastic ensemble piece for actors of a variety of ages. All these characters and their beliefs are so multi-faceted and layered. You just don't get to experience these types of perspectives on stage very often. Loved that this is a play that features a cast of character all with a common job and goal. A fascinating look at the unsung heroes that make elections happen safely and fair.
