Recommendations of Revenge of the Swifties

  • Claire Waldrop: Anti-Hero: Revenge of the Swifties

An effortlessly funny and satirical play, that is somehow, simultaneously, incredibly sincere with its interrogation of authenticity in the digital age, para-social relationships, and how it feels to want something you can't quite put your finger on. These characters are impeccable-- both in how grounded and absolutely insane they all are. Adored this script!

Uproariously funny. Otero makes comedy look effortless.

Sometimes we are all 14 year old girls committing heinous acts in the name of our pop idols. This play is such a rampant good time that you don't realize how devastatingly invested you are until it's too late. It's funny, it's shocking, it teaches you the form and then breaks it. Everyone should see this play.

Well, this is a delight. Taylor Swift's rabidly loyal fanbase goes to great lengths to get justice for Taylor in this darkly comedic play. What a fun challenge for a designer: Snakes raining down on the stage! Glowing red eyes of the Swifties watching from the shadows! Seeing this staged would be magical! I especially loved Bonnie, the mom who is trying so desperately to relate to her daughter. A dark, glorious comedy!

A wonderfully bizarre play about being a teen and obsessive fandom. These characters do some really insane things for Taylor Swift. Loved how mete-theatrical this play is, especially towards the end.

This play has a heart of deep sincerity wrapped in the hard candy of pop obsession, transmogrified into the supernatural. I love this play.

Within the world of Taylor Swift's fan base, beats the heart of a wry intergenerational examination of the ways social media trends meld with toxic societal traits to the detriment of humanity. This play makes me want to smash my phone == and every phone == with a hammer. Centering teenage girls and girl culture that transcends to a new universe of understanding, while deftly destroying late stage Capitalism with wallpaper-blistering satire, this play not only walks a razor's edge, it bends it in a new direction. Bravo!
