We produced an audio version of this script in our season 4 line-up of the Gather by the Ghost Light podcast (https://www.gatherbytheghostlight.com/s4e10). Ava Love Hanna's "Secondhand Soul" is a delightful play with a hilarious take on mistaken identity. And while humor may be prevalent throughout, Hanna keeps heart as the driving force of the story. This snapshot of Em and Vi's relationship reveals so much about their love for each other in only 10 pages. Funny and charming! Highly recommended to read or produce!

Sometimes you gotta exorcise demons in order to move on to the next chapter of your life...and sometimes you just gotta give up your soul. Queer love, misunderstandings, adamantly held opinions, and supernatural shenanigans collide in this very funny, very sweet short.

Mistaken Identity has never been so much fun as in SECONDHAND SOUL by Ava Love Hanna. The comedy unfolds brilliantly as a delightful queer love story also takes focus. The pacing is wonderful, too, as the 3 characters make reveals and each discovery builds on the previous. I'd love to see this one staged.

This put a big smile on my face. A hilarious short with a touch of heartfelt truth. It would be an excellent inclusion in any festival, especially something Halloween-related.

Spooky, punny, with a disdain for cardio and a queer romance? Sign me up! SECOND HAND SOUL is a Halloween short with a soft, gooey heart. Full of opportunities for designers to have a field day (both with atmosphere and the character of Damon) Ava Love Hanna’s spooky-season offering would be a highlight of any festival. While the overwhelming experience of the play is fun and silly, there’s a moving thread exploring how a religious upbringing can continue to fill us with fear and shame, even when we think we’ve grown past it.

Oh, this goofy, spooky, romantic comedy is a true delight! The characters are sweet, quirky, and loveable, and their specificity helps to flesh out the tightly constructed world of this play. I will admit I did not see the twist coming... but the moment it did, I found myself grinning from ear to ear! It's definitely a feel-good romance that would be right at home in a Halloween OR Valentine's Day play festival... my favorite combo! A very enjoyable read that I'd love to see performed live!
