I had the pleasure of seeing this as part of the Harrisburg Fringe Festival. It was my first time experiencing a Choose Your Own Play, but it was easy to tell that David's piece is a masterclass in how to write in that style. The play really leans into the camp of a fantasy and horror story and is full of laughs. The play holds a surprising amount of tension for audiences, coming from the choices they force the characters to make throughout the play's runtime.

My only regret is not being able to see it more than once.

Character Information

A cast of 12 is based on most actors doubling as minor characters in various scenes. For a larger cast, these roles can each be played by individual actors. As written, the Host does not play any other character, but if it works for your production, go nuts! For a cast of 7, it is recommended that the TRIPLETS do not double. The other four actors play all other roles, including the Host.
  • FIRSTBORN
One of the TRIPLETS. Over-confident and under-stressed.
  • MIDDLEBORN
One of the TRIPLETS. Over-analyzing and under-appreciated.
  • LASTBORN
One of the TRIPLETS. Over-imaginative and under-estimated.
  • LUCINDA
Oldest sister of the triplets, raised them since infancy after parents succumbed to the curse.
  • BASIL
Late father to Lucinda and the Triplets
  • WITCH
A rogue WITCH who has cursed Lucinda. True name is Turnevessia.
  • EKATHRA
a second witch with many reasons to hate Turnevessia.
  • SIR ABBERINGDONTON ST. JAMES IV
A doctor of some renown and old friend to Basil
  • BLYTHEWICK CORIANDER
A doctor of no renown and few friends.
  • BOLDERFORTH HUNTSWAITHE
A noble lord who presides over a secret society of supernatural hunters.
  • MAURICE
A taciturn hunter in league with Bolderforth.
  • THE HOST
Master of Ceremonies. Guides audience through all voting with quick wit.
  • OTHER SUNDRY CHARACTERS
Tone-setters, world-builders, exposition-dealers, cackling birds, and maybe a dead body or two
