I love this play! Michigan is unexpectedly a perfect setting for a story this stylish. The rules of the world are so rich and interesting. I had so much fun sitting with this, and would love to see it put up!

When I tell you this play is a world onto itself...I truly mean that. Schotland takes us through one of the most magical and beautiful adventures you could ask to experience and truly solidifies their place as a master world builder. Beyond that, their characters are so distinct and lived and full, they will haunt you long after you've put the play down. Filled with the most immensely breathtaking imagery and heartfelt language, this play is something to truly behold.

Character Information

Marek is transmasculine.

Bunbury is an angel, and therefore genderless. He/him pronouns are used throughout the script. Please consider actors of diverse gender presentations and expressions when casting.
  • Bunbury
Looks late 20s, actually much older. “...neither a man nor a woman, but an angel. An archangel.” More specifically, the angel of phosphene. Common loon wings.
  • Feiffer
40s. Sardonic, cool, and quiet. Feral goth femme glamour. Out for revenge and won’t let anything get in her way. Recovering alcoholic.
  • Falco
Mid 20s. Feiffer’s nephew. Zoomer e-boy; wishes he was an emo millennial. Wants to be like Feiffer. Very much in the closet.
  • Marek
Late 20s. Ex-Ph.D. student in Physics. If gender is a performance, he’s a Shakespearean fool. Trying to pretend his life isn’t falling apart.
    Character Gender Identity
    Femme
  • Kit
Late 30s. Feiffer’s dead wife, now a haunting. Capable, but head-in-the-clouds butch. Marek’s former mentor. Plays the Professor, Maggie, the Crows, the Radio Announcer, David Byrne, Jewelle Judd, the Waitress, and Jeremy.

  • Crows
A murder of crows. They should sound loud and intrusive: a thousand voices speaking at once. Ideally, they should be voiced by everyone in the cast.
