When Priscilla thwarts Sky's attempt to escape the Academy, the two accidentally awaken the ghost of a student who died on campus decades prior. In their attempt to set the ghost to rest and solve the mystery of her death, they uncover secrets about the school that shake Priscilla's faith-- and form an unexpected connection.
The Martyr deals with themes of religious trauma, queer self-invention, and the power of memory. It contains content warnings for homophobia, transphobia, eating disorders, self-harm, suicide, and religious abuse.

The Martyr

  • Aly Kantor: The Martyr

The dorkily lovable teenage protagonist at the center of this queer ghost story is a gift for young performers — smart but flawed and gorgeously layered, I cared about Priscilla-Jane instantly! Full of pearls of wisdom, gorgeous theatricality, music, and ghosts, the intimate world of this play is rich in atmosphere. I love how efficiently the piece moves, giving it a swift sense of momentum, even as it leads us through the past. This moving, funny historical mystery will leave you with hope!
