  • Kelly McBurnette-Andronicos: The Wallabies of Venice

As if Venice doesn’t have enough challenges! Plumridge has dreamed up a wacky situation for our doges to contend with, if they could only get out of each other’s way. I’m a sucker for the absurd, and Plumridge delivers with a big helping of silly and improbable anachronisms. A really fun, short play that makes me want to romp around a bit more in the playwright’s mind. Loved it!

Delightful utter silliness. I love it!

  • Steven G. Martin: The Wallabies of Venice

"The Wallabies of Venice" would be a delight for actors, filled with a variety of colorful, foolish characters from a sweet but distracted old man to pompous artiste to a overindulgent historic lover and more.

The banter is silly, the problem is ridiculous, and the climax is beautifully played out after the seed is innocuously planted among the first lines of dialogue. A lot of fun in a few short moments.

Elephants, Bears and Wallabies, oh my! Totally insane, irreverent, politically in-correct madness. Bravo!

  • John Busser: The Wallabies of Venice

I guarantee you, no one else is going to come up with something this ludicrous. But then, this is the man responsible for a series of Vampire teddy bear plays, and we all know how awesome those are. Chris Plumridge has concocted a very silly play in the style of Monty Python, but with more wallabies. Whether you buy into the conceit or not, the idea behind this extremely funny piece should get laughs from you right from the get go. Great fun.

Wacky fun is right. Love the snappy dialogue and the energy around this play but what I love best is the spirit to which these so-called leaders rise up to rid their city of the dreaded wallabies which are driving away the tourist. The elephant may not be in the room, but you can rest assured these men will be able to have you forgetting anything but the fun that is had for reader and viewer alike.

Delightful. Wacky. Absurd. Silly. Monty-Python-esque. Smile-Widening. Accurate. Poignant.
The characters are a diverse mix, each with their own quirky personalities, making for an eccentric, entertaining, and engaging story. It's witty and clever - with opportunities for laughter.
I'd love to see this done with a full budget with all the bells, whistles, and wallabies...but that's just the beauty of absurdism - it also works in a void. Read it. Read it now.

I don’t know much about European history and it probably doesn’t matter. Chris Plumridge has created perhaps the wackiest tea party since the Mad Hatter. Set in 18th century Venice but with a character who could very well have the nickname Wallaby Dundee, this play… oh what the heck. Just read it and laugh! It’s beyond description.

This piece is absolutely bonkers! Which makes the bureaucracy of it straight up accurate. It's what the officials are discussing and HOW they discuss it that goes more off the rails than any real political debate. Just picturing the over the top accents and the fast paced delivery makes you smile! A comic ensemble play that will really show off the wacky skills of your actors and designers!

I want to see that painting Canaletto! That, for me was the start of the wonderful back and forth of utter madness and chaos in which problems attempt to be discussed using wonderfully witty dialogue that surpasses the concept of time itself (or at least the characters involved do). Its difficult to explain too much about what happens in this fabulous piece without giving away the story but to be honest I probably shouldn't tell you what its about because as a piece its a prime example of "you just had to be there!" Another fab piece Chris!
