  • Ryan Kaminski: A Penny for Your Thoughts

07/07/2026 - An engaging and heartfelt comedy about a married couple and their "thoughts." A simple yet creative and engaging premise that had me hooked from beginning to end. Both couples work great here and all the couples in the audience will be able to relate to the witty and honest dialogue. Well done!

Remarkably, A PENNY FOR YOUR THOUGHTS by Andrew Martineau is a two-hander for four actors - as the thoughts of Hope and Mitch have human representations. I admire how the tone breaks serious one moment, funny the next, and keeps you guessing even while in the midst of a situation of the tipsy late husband questioned by his wife. Comedic highlights for me are when Mitch sits on his thoughts and later when Hope and Mitch's Thoughts address one another in a fine surreal twist. Nice work! [7-6-26]

  • Maximillian Gill: A Penny for Your Thoughts

A unique idea wonderfully conceived for a theatrical space. Giving each character's thoughts to another actor is an elegant metaphor for the disassociation all of us often feel when our outer actions and words fail to match our inner selves. Martineau uses the conceit to express how we struggle to connect with others. The ending has just enough ambiguity to leave us wondering about the possibilities of true alignment. A lot packed into a compact piece.

A clever look at marriage and communication, where a couple’s thoughts are personified by actors, adding depth to their conversation. With humor and warmth, Martineau explores the space between spoken words and hidden feelings, revealing the complexities of relationships.

The play’s structure, with additional actors representing the main characters’ thoughts, provides a visual depiction of the disconnect between what someone says and what they are thinking. Martineau uses this personification of thoughts to explore the intricacies of marital communication with both humor and warmth.

"A Penny for Your Thoughts" is a thought-provoking play that looks at the intricacies of marriage and communication. The innovative portrayal of characters alongside their personified thoughts offers a unique perspective on the unspoken complexities within relationships. The setting is a minimalist condo—reflects the stripped-down nature of the couple's interactions, emphasizing the theme of isolation amidst togetherness. The contrast between spoken dialogue and internal monologues, accentuated by separate actors for thoughts, creates a compelling narrative and adds a deeper unique perspective...

  • David Shaw: A Penny for Your Thoughts

Nice illustration of the tension and back and forth of marriage and being involve intimately with someone else. Although nothing actually gets solved, that is the way life works, it's open ended but they are in love so you know they'll make it, thoughts and all, at least for a while. Shows a couple figuring it out with strong dialogue and a satisfying ending, bravo.

This is such a cool concept. I love the idea of a character's thoughts inhabiting separate characters. It is touching, smart, and fully realized. Very well written. Great work.

  • Paul Donnelly: A Penny for Your Thoughts

The dichotomy between a character's thoughts and their external presentation are wittily illuminated by making the thoughts independent characters. It seems the best way to preserve a relationship is to suppress or at least subvert these thoughts. A most engaging execution of a clever premise.
