As I read Anastasia Wild's "Portals", I was reminded of a Star Trek episode, "The City On the Edge of Forever" in which Kirk, Spock & McCoy enter a "portal" that transports them to the 1930's. Good episode! Yet if only it had had the wit and the heart of Ms Wild's lovely written futuristic tale. If only! I beautiful piece that demands a live production.

What would you do for your creation? That’s what Anastasia Wild explores in PORTALS. The power of friendship and dedication makes their portal possible, but it’s what was created for one of them that questions if they should stay or explore. Would you take the step?

As cool as this two-hander is as a sci-fi piece, and it’s very cool, it’s the humanity at the core that makes it work so well. I think back to the giant leap for mankind and the bravery and potential sacrifice involved. Anastasia Wild has created a similar situation with two scientists, friends weighing important decisions. Audiences will find themselves captivated by these characters and their choices and wondering what they would do under similar circumstances. Hope they get the chance soon.

The simple two handed dilemma play. To be or not to be? As common as dirt. Very well developed and natural dialogue - this short piece moves skillfully and the ending is lovely. Yummy work!

A brilliant exploration of an improbably imaginative moment - the discovery of a spacetime portal - and the ensuing existential question it provokes. Wild's dialogue draws the reader in, and the portal lends itself to an exquisite physicality, as the two characters navigate the space. This would be a field day for a creative team to plumb for all its potential.

Who knew a play about interstellar portals could be relatable to the average reader? At its core, this is a story about making decisions and the way we always fear the unknown, even when taking the first step might lead to brilliant things... because there's always the possibility, however scant, that it won't. At the same time, there is a lot of strong world-building packed into this tiny play, with an intriguing sci-fi premise that hooked me from page one. This short is simple, human, and moving.

I’ve always believed the key to good science fiction is its humanity. Anastasia Wild highlights and reinforces this belief in her short PORTALS. The friendship between our two protagonists complicates decision-making, interfering with the pursuit of scientific discovery. Great atmospheric table-setting and providing high emotional stakes, this short is a winner!

"Portals" is a lovely showcase about friendship in the midst of a huge scientific discovery. Wild's writing brings these two characters to life on the page.

“How can I leave the unknown?” How many of us have struggled with that? Wild has higher stakes than we may be used to but the universal truth of safety with the known versus the unknown is a force to be reckoned with. Friendship, fear, blazing new trails - Wild’s play offers new perspectives.
