Recommendations of Medusa, Modern Woman

  • Susan Middaugh: Medusa, Modern Woman

Imaginative retelling of the story of Medusa from her point of view. Crisp dialogue. I loved the reference to "temple etiquette" and the classes they hold about it. I saw a reading of this play at the 41st annual William Inge Festival in Independence, KS. Brava, Lizzy!

  • Mindy R. Roll: Medusa, Modern Woman

Wow. I was captivated by this play from the very beginning. Brilliantly written, smart and powerful, packs an emotional punch. And I absolutely loved the chorus. I have thought about this play many times since seeing it.

In MEDUSA, MODERN WOMAN, Lizzy Santana crafts such an exciting play combining Greek mythology with a nuanced and modern view of Medusa. There's so much here for directors and performers to explore as a familiar character comes alive in new ways through a different lens. I had the joy of watching this piece come alive during a reading at the William Inge Theatre Festival and can't wait to see where it goes next.

  • Lainie Vansant: Medusa, Modern Woman

This compassionate and nuanced look at Medusa's side of her own story is sure to make the grown up Percy Jackson kids in your theatre's town take notice and buy tickets. Santana approaches Medusa's story with care for both the character and the Greek theatre format while also making the story relevant to modern audiences. I got to see a reading of this play at the 2024 Inge Festival, and it drew the audience in quite effectively.

  • Everett Robert: Medusa, Modern Woman

As a huge Greek mythlogy nerd, I was excited to see this play on the program at the 2024 William Inge Festival. This exceeded any expectations I had by weaving the story of Medusa into a story that fulfills the title, by presenting her story as one that too many modern women can relate too. I also loved that she followed so much of the troupes of Greek theater (chorus, two to three actors on stage at a time). Amazing and highly recommended
