A perfect look into summer love and what it means to love someone. Dylan Horowitz masterfully brings this story to life with wonderful world-building. You feel as if you're right there on the dock with these characters as they battle through society together. I had the honor to voice Ash in Broken Arts Entertainment's audio recording of this piece! Such a fun and intimate character to bring to life.

Very nicely drawn portrait of those special feelings, and the feelers who feel them. I loved their shared game with the stories of the different ships (by the way, Doug is NOT a boring name!). Well done.

What a lovely exploration of the fear and the euphoria, the yearning and the retreat that run through first love. These young men are vividly drawn and engaging. Eden's description of his desire to join Ash in the ocean and the fear that kept him out is a gorgeous reflection of his core dilemma. Though they have different tolerances for going public, there is a sense of something solid at the core of their connection.

A lovely play in terms of expectations and perspectives. The overall concept for the observations works well in terms of providing a structure that also allows for some effective character exploration. Beyond that, you have honesty between these two characters that seems incredibly realistic. I was very satisfied that this story doesn't resolve itself unrealistically. Instead, we're left with a sometimes quirky, sometimes fun, sometimes touching, and always romantic encounter between these two enjoyable characters.

  • BRUCE HURLEY: Boat Spotting

This is a super sweet romance that brought me into a world that was familiar and foreign at the same time. The weird feelings of infatuation took me right back to my youth but the story also introduced the awkward complications of queer love that I never had to face. I love the clever way that societal judgment is woven into the storyline through metaphor. A wonderful story!

First loves are always the hardest, but they're also the most amazing because they are an unexplored country and every feeling is new and scary and thrilling. The way that Dylan Horowitz has written this enchanting short play, you feel every bit of those emotions as Ash and Eden step carefully into the new world. They're both vulnerable but brave, willing to explore, but scared of going too far from home. This is a gentle and heart-aching story, and I hope it gets seen.

Ugh, I cried! This is an incredibly tender romance that Dylan Horowitz has written, and if you’re a fan of summer love, queer or not, BOAT SPOTTING is a must-visit destination. Ash and Eden are adorable and relatable to anyone who’s struggled to step into the deep end, and anyone who has stood in the water waiting for their loved one to find the courage. A fabulous short play.
