An incredibly powerful short drama. Cooper uses an economy of language, scenery, and time to make a timeless and harrowing point. The dialogue flows smoothly and the characters are believable. An excellent, excellent piece.

Yes, the time is 1997. Yet the given circumstances are timeless. In fact, Donald Cooper's "Doors Are Closing" is so "in the moment" that it borders on hyper-realism. It's every passengers nightmare. Kudos!

A startling exploration of cruelty and suspicion that sadly hasn't improved very much in some circles over the years. Cooper builds the tension effectively through this piece, and once the revelation is unfurled, our empathy takes another step forward. Pity that doesn't happen with Max, of course. That being said, it was indeed fascinating to watch an unrepentant character, and I commend Cooper for not softening his veneer. The piece had so much more impact because of that. Great theater here!

I saw this as a reading at the Midwest Dramatists Conference and was taken with the mysterious, threatening dynamic between the TSA agent and passenger. The mistreatment of the passenger after revealing his illness was striking and a fascinating insight into the historical treatment of people with HIV. The ticking clock of the flight leaving really pushed the play to a great climax. Loved it.
