This play totally knocked my socks off. A fascinating examination of the thin line between human and animal; and the ways that organized religion and systems of violence and punishment impact the way these girls treat each other and themselves. Filled with so many beautiful moments and gems of absolute truth about faith and girlhood with a stunning, theatrical, delightful finish.

A really interesting look at a subculture that I was completely unfamiliar with. Carr brilliantly takes us into this world of raising calves to explore the trials and tribulations of being a teenage girl. Loved getting to know all these characters and understanding why they take part in this life. This is a play about finding community, wanting more out of life and the power of female friendship. Having the girls play each other's calves is such an interesting choice. I'd love to see this physicality of this play brought to life in a full production.

I had the pleasure of seeing a staged reading of CALF SCRAMBLE at the Ojai Playwrights Conference. I could not get to my laptop fast enough to write this recommendation. Carr navigates the complexities of teenage curiosity, angst, and the need for belonging with humor, wit, and brave theatricality. Without spoiling, I will say Marin's monologue is unforgettable and a huge highlight of the script. I never thought I'd be so excited to see girls turn into calfs on stage, but I cannot wait until this has a fully realized production.
