What's the difference between a helicopter parent and a wet blanket? Nothing, if Cathleen and Merle have anything to say about it! Steven Martin's delightful farce is a laugh-out-loud farce that lovingly skewers overbearing parents who, let's face it, have best intentions (if the worst timing). This would be a great addition to any short play festival and will have the audience rolling in the aisles. Bravo, Steve!

There is a core of kindness at the center of this bonkers story of helicopter parents gone too far. It's that kindness that ensures the play's delightfully crafted cringe humor absolutely sings! The play moves quickly—but possibly slower for the audience, who will spend the entire ten minutes trying to catch their breath in between genuine peals of laughter! Just when you think you're done, the phenomenal button hits you with a final boost of endorphins. Read this play if you need a pick-me-up!

How can such INSANE parents still be so lovable?! I just adore how much they care a little TOO much about their son's happiness. And the fact that their son, though embarrassed, is honestly happy to have their support. This is play about love, masquerading as a horror/comedy! Absolutely brilliant details in the lists and supplies mom and dad bring. This play would slay as the ending to a short play festival!

I had to stop multiple times while reading Mr. Martin’s short play. Not because of my ADHD, however, but because I was cackling so hard. This is one of the most quotable plays I’ve read that I also can’t actually quote because of mixed company. Rest assured this is a hoot & a half waiting for the team mounting this (pun intended?), and it will bring down the house. The audience watching this play will probably need assistance breathing. Riotously funny, and deeply sweet beneath all the comedy.

This play really puts into perspective one's experiences with "helicopter parents". Especially as parents who accept their son, his sexuality, and his husband, the comedy comes from how they manage to go overboard with the acceptance. Funny, cringey, and a little sweet!

    Harrowing. Utterly harrowing.

Gay people generally hope their parents will be accepting. Well... be careful what you wish for!!!

Martin has fashioned the most hilariously excruciating parental overcorrection for a gay son's wedding night. The intergenerational vibes and parental tropes are spot on. Like the beleaguered grooms, you'll want the earth to swallow you whole to spare you from the cringing! Thanks to the parents, you'll want to look up a whole bunch of naughty stuff, purely for educational purposes of course.

    Hilarious. Utterly hilarious.

This short comedy - Gayedy? - will have you cringing and howling with laughter all at once. The situational comedy is hysterical: think Sex Education condensed into ten minutes. The devil is in those details and that binder and snackle box. Can't unsee/ unlearn this one! (I had the immense honor of reading this aloud sight unseen recently and my "I Love You Honey" / keep a straight face muscles were certainly put to the test!)

What everybody wants on their wedding night, a couple of helicopter parents just ready to help you with your honeymoon and to set you on a path for a successful marriage and life together. In the skillful hands of Steven G.Martin, this is also one of the funniest plays I've read in a long time. Knowing when to let go is one of the basic life lessons for any parents but aren't we always delighted by those who just can't cut the cord soon enough.

A Comedy of Horrors? A gay man’s nightmare? Lord help Generation Alpha, the beneficiaries/victims of the age of helicopter parenting. Martin gives us a hilarious but-oh-so-cringeworthy glimpse into a newlywed couple’s marriage night. Darkly absurd, this fast paced, mental burlesque will leave the audience gasping for air. From laughing and from shock. Martin holds nothing back. Give this eye-popper a read!
