A Visit from San Cristobal is a modern folkloric tale of magic realism, family secrets, and the quest to find home against all odds. Set in contemporary Los Angeles, the play focuses on the affluent Mendez family, world renown violinist, Benjamin and his designer wife, Caridad, whose life has recently been saved by a kidney transplant. When a stranger appears at the door claiming to be the donor and seeking refuge from those pursuing her, the Mendez family must face their own fears and the secrets that have been buried not only in the present, but long ago in San Cristobal. Add to the plot Caridad’s vain and hypochondriac mother, a loyal housekeeper and a supernatural villain, San Cristobal is a modern comedy-drama-morality tale about the lengths we go for family and home.
