This is so true to life it hurts. How do we wind up in the jobs we have? Hopefully we can see other options or work toward them. And hopefully this can happen in time. I like the sense of urgency here.

They say the most interesting time to meet a character is when they are under threat. Shot Girl is a fascinating exploration of powerlessness, and what happens when a woman decides to stick all 10 toes in the ground and take some agency in her own life.

I could listen to this woman talk all day. We learn so much about her and it's revealed so naturally. Spellbinding. Instantly appealing, many will identify with her...until the shocking revelation. You might not like her by the end,but you'll understand her.

Right from the word go I was captured by this woman's talk about her working life, essentially because it was relatable in the sense that a lot of people end up in jobs where they never expected to be, maybe not to this extent but it still feels very real. Then comes the slightly dark/amusing twist on how 'shot girl' gets through her days at work. I can't say much more without ruining it but my advice, read it, appreciate it and if you are a looking for a powerful yet entertaining female monologue, this is it!

I wasn't sure waht to expect from this monologue at the start, but boy, was I way off on where it ended! And as I listened to Shot Girl's tale, I got more an more invested in her well being. This is that whole "Meeting a bear vs meeting a man in the woods" argument currently in the societal spotlight in a nutshell. And Shot Girl's solution? While possibly dangerous in it's ramifications (what WERE those pills anyway), you certainly see the justification. This is just terrific writing from Amber Dickinson. I'll have another, please.

I expected the shot girl to be doing something much more intimate - body shots or something. But, by keeping this in the correct context, Amber creates the opportunity to defend the shot girl solution. The monologue is tight, no excess, and goes straight to the heart of the challenge. This is a terrific piece for an actress with range and depth. Nicely done.

Absolutely riveting. In a few short minutes, Amber R. Dickinson's "Shot Girl" took me through a full spectrum of emotions; the story's impact stayed with me long after the last line was read. I had the pleasure of hearing Amber perform this piece at a reading and the audience was spell bound in that way that leaves everyone speechless, needing a moment with their thoughts to absorb the full weight of what we've experienced together. What a fabulous monologue for an actress to express moving vibrancy and sharp dimension.

I cannot tell express how much I ADORE this monologue. AMBER R. DICKINSON has created a piece that actresses will really understand. There isn't a woman alive who hasn't experienced or seen the behaviors that drive this shot girl - this brilliant, this tired, this traumatized shot girl. Do I root for her? On some level yes, and audiences will too.
