Everything, Devoured

by Katherine Gwynn

Ronald Reagan is a demon. Ronald Reagan is a drag queen. Ronald Reagan is here, queer, and ready to eat you alive.

Or: when 3 Chicago queers, a ghost who died in 1989, and a satanic summoning collide in Kore's studio apartment, their demons come out with a knife held to their throats--daring them to survive.

Everything, Devoured is part ghost story, part drag show, part summoning and part exorcism, spilling...

I love it when a play asserts itself with a forceful intensity, and that's exactly what Gwynn presents for us here. The conflicts surrounding revolution and liberation are shown with a distinct sense of style, the supernatural blending in seamlessly with the urgency of the subject matter. A sharp reminder from us all of the dangers of reaching across class lines... or whatever lines separate this material reality from the next.

What an exciting, wild wild wild play! It's queer, it's so very now, it's poignant and trippy. The emotional integrity drips from every page. I love it! Someone should produce this ASAP.

A wildly queer firestorm of a play that hums with rich dramaturgy, spooky trans excellence, and a thrillingly theatrical deconstruction of Reagan's apocalyptic capitalism. Gwynn is a rip-roaring, fearless voice for our moment. There are so many lines in this play that genuinely made me gasp in their brave, full-throated rage at the 2024 America we all live in. Twisted in the best possible way. Not to mention the campy, glittery, survivalist climax? A gorgeous play to produce in the drag-club-post-capitalist-bunkers we could be living in soon
