The Pearl of the East is a musical set in 2019, when the protests in Hong Kong were raging. It revolves around a 70-year-old grandmother sharing her story with her 8-year-old granddaughter. Through narration and song, she reveals her journey of illegally immigrating to Hong Kong on a boat with her family during the Cultural Revolution in the '60s, where her untold secret haunts her once again.
