There is no name for the space between lightning and thunder; so the playwright gave it one: Interlocus. The story explores the intersections of time, connection, mental health, and healing through three characters: Samantha, a conflicted musician; Ethan, a writer longing for meaning; and Mark, Samantha’s estranged father. Set in Portland, Oregon, the story unfolds as Samantha and Ethan discover their shared ability to "step out of time," creating a space where they grapple with their personal struggles and form a unique bond. Meanwhile, Mark strives to rebuild his relationship with Samantha while navigating his own path to redemption. Interwoven with music, poetry, drama, and humor, the play delves into the subjects of grief, romantic love, familial love, addiction, time-travel, anxiety, and the pursuit of purpose amidst life’s chaos.

With the innovative conceit of "stepping out of time," Gilly-Forrer has created an elegant, multi-layered device. It is a space for the characters to escape the world's frenzies. It is a metaphor for that indefinable, special reality in which we fall in love with each other. It is so much more, just as this play is about so many things. Above all we have two characters on a lovely, joined journey of processing grief. There are monologues in this play that are both sad and achingly beautiful.

If the stunning language in Tiffany Gilly-Forrer's "Interlocus" doesn't make you fall instantly in love with this play, the rich characters and her exploration of grief and love will. A play that is so incredibly Portland and also universal, "Interlocus" uses time and the ability to step out of it as both metaphor and plot device. She crafts a world in which ordinary people have this super power. A super power they can only discover through great grief. Oh, and did I mention it's hilarious?

A beautiful, tragic love story about how precious time is. Tiffany’s unique voice shines through as equal parts hilarious and erudite and teaches us through “Interlocus” to savor every moment. Profoundly human, with a layer of mysticism that will keep audiences on the edge of their seat.

SAMANTHA. 28, plays an instrument (violin, ukulele, guitar, cello, or other small instrument), charming like her father, avoids conflict and dealing with the hard stuff
MARK. 55, Samantha’s Father, charming, optimist, but beaten up by life’s hardships
ETHAN. 27, a writer, stuck, longs for adventure but cannot initiate, avoids conflict

It is preferred that there are only three actors and that the people who fill the crowded scenes are created with design/tech.
