When cryptids and ethics entwine! I really like how this play makes the audience reflect on the question, "Who is the real monster here?" A great play that has more than a mysterious lake creature in its depths.

I was fortunate to get to see this play at the 2024 Midwest Dramatists Conference in Kansas City. It would seem to be the perfect match: Mythical creatures such as Bigfoot and social media! Oh, but what about the merchandising? A fun little piece by Kyle Walker.

The strength of this short piece is not the high-concept but the wonderful characters that author has created that come together to capture the moment. The exaggerated, but unfortunately all-too-real, people who are drawn to the event are so wonderfully developed in just a few moments that we are with them as they clash with each other.

I love a play that makes me laugh while having real substance, and BIG FOOTPRINTS does exactly that. We laugh as these three characters' goals butt up against one another in hilarious fashion--but ultimately, the play offers a very sincere and necessary reminder about the importance of caring for our earth.

What happens when legends become real and fall into the event horizon of social media influencers? A collision of epic proportions between historical validation and the crush of publicity, not to mention the merch to go along with it. Kyle Walker's skills at satire laced with real concern for how we treat the world are on full display and it's a combination of great laughs tinged with the reminder of what's really at stake.
