MAMA (3-minute play)

by Agnes Palfi

This play depicts life racing by in under a minute, devoid of the need to accumulate pain. While we encounter a few traumas, they cannot deeply affect us in such a short span. The older generation swiftly departs, replaced in moments by the younger, only to vanish before we can grow accustomed to them. Meanwhile, time marches on.

Devastating short play. So much of life happens around the kitchen table and it all goes by so fast. As a parent of young children this floored me. Incredible piece of beautiful art.

Cycle of life indeed. Also, the ending brings to mind, “Cats in the Cradle”. Which is to say this is the most epic 5 minute play I’ve ever read. The sped up passing of time element is fascinating. Give it a shot, I know you’ll enjoy it!
