Recommendations of Mittens in July (an audio play)

This is what makes Evan Baughfman such a damned brilliant writer. Yes, he gets audiences feeling absolute horror, disgust, and revulsion. But at the same time, my sense of sympathy and care for these characters is so high because this is a nightmare situation none of them sought. It feels like all three were placed in this predicament against their will, and I feel awful for all of them.

08/08/2025 - I began reading this piece not knowing what to expect, and boy was I surprised! Gripping from the moment it begins with plenty of scenes and sound effects that will terrify any audience. As someone who writes horror plays as well, I feel Evan Baughfman is doing an excellent job keeping the genre alive. Would love to hear this read out loud. Great work!

    DEAR GOD!!!!!

I was sorely tempted to leave those two words as my whole recommendation. And I certainly don't want to leave any spoilers. But I would be remiss if I didn't mention how astoundingly visual this audio play is. Even sans set, you see the set, the costumes, the ATMOSPHERE down to the constant wisps of breath in the cold air. As ever, Baughfman instantly plunges us into unsettling circumstances that stealthily build until...

You sometimes wonder what is going on in a playwright's mind, I often wonder the same thing about my own mind, but Evan's mind? Evan goes to unimaginable places and the destination is always 100% worth the trip. Each of Evan's shows is a lesson in how far can you escalate? In Mittens in July, this show escalates in a way you would never expect and we're all entertained by the ride. You find yourself rooting for Arlo and rooting for Wendy and rooting for... Well I don't want to ruin it for you!

JEEEEEEEZUS H! That was a descent into weirdness I wasn't expecting. I mean, I know Evan Baughfman is gonna give me some bang for my buck. I know he's the go-to guy for horror plays. I know he's going to provide some of the best twisted entertainment around.

But I wan't ready for Harry.

And I'm kinda glad I wasn't. Because while I know what Evan's capable of, I'm sure general audiences aren't. And boy, do I want to be there in the crowd when THIS play drops on them. Sick, bent and gruesome. Oh yeah.
