Recommendations of A MONOLOGUE

  • Ken Love: RENT BOY: A MONOLOGUE

Please! While reading this monologue, while watching the performance of this monologue - stay with it until the close! Because the "punchline", if you will, at the end is what makes the work. Asher Wyndham has proven himself to be an adept yet untamed and blistering social critic. And not a writer who is simply "on the edge". There's so much to explore in his work.

  • Steven G. Martin: RENT BOY: A MONOLOGUE

This monologue is a blistering indictment of powerful men whose public persona and private activity are at odds. And I love that Asher Wyndham makes those men the subject of "Rent Boy" without allowing them to appear onstage because all they would do is evade, deceive, or politick.

  • Cassie M. Seinuk: RENT BOY: A MONOLOGUE

As always, Asher's monologues are bangers, and this one is no exception! An engaging character throughout with clear objectives and a taking risks in the content. I always admire Asher's writing for his unwavering talent at hitting at hard realities and keeping his pulse on the political current of our times. By just setting this play in Milwaukee, we know the convention his stud is at, we know and we know what the red hat means.

  • Scott Sickles: RENT BOY: A MONOLOGUE

I love that Asher Wyndham and I share at least one center of white hot political rage! And one of the hottest sparks igniting our collective powder kegs, hotter than the fascism of people trying to destroy those who are different from themselves, is the hypocrisy of those trying to destroy those who are like them, who share their predilections but aren't ashamed of them. RENT BOY is an indictment of those traitors, determined to live as the people they try to erase in between empowering those determined to erase them. There's a power in shame and it's wielded beautifully.
