Recommendations of A GOOD DAY

  • Mathew Green: A GOOD DAY

Like the object at its center, this play is a fragile, beautiful thing. The events that transpire are inordinately powerful, given the brief amount of time we spend in the world this play imagines. A deeply effective and affecting piece. Bravo.

Steven G. Martin’s A Good Day is a quietly powerful 10-minute play built around a beautifully theatrical concept. The emotional core, particularly through Emily, lands in a way that feels honest and resonant. It’s a piece that trusts stillness and reflection, giving actors meaningful moments to explore. A thoughtful and moving addition to any short play festival.

  • Nora Louise Syran: A GOOD DAY

Absolutely gorgeous. Who would imagine that something so surreal --an 'artifact' full of memories at a garage sale -- could be more real than reality. Could offer such frustration for one and such comfort to another. One day "all around the world on May 10". So many aphorisms come to mind: one man's junk...time heals all wounds.. So much grand universality to this tiny tale of grief, comfort and kindness.

  • Josh Gauthier: A GOOD DAY

This one hit harder than I was prepared for. A fantastic short play about memory, grief, and one perfect day. Martin gives us three distinct characters rich with emotion, and layers in questions about memory, the cost of hindsight, and what we might be willing (or not willing) to give to recapture the past.

08/29/2025 - A beautiful short piece. Compelling characters, an intriguing concept, themes of grief, what it means to be happy, and second chances all within ten minutes. Bound to move every audience member as they get lost in the imaginative story. Well done Steve!

  • Christopher Soucy: A GOOD DAY

What a beautiful meditation on the weight of grief. How easy to forget the world so revolves while in the thick of it. And perhaps, most poignantly, how we hold on tight to shards of shattered love knowing they cut us deeper the harder we hold onto them. Steve has delivered an eloquent treatise on the wonders of human fragility.

  • Danielle Wirsansky: A GOOD DAY

“A Good Day” is a beautifully layered play about grief, longing, and the different ways we view our lives. Jessica’s desire for a perfect day contrasts with Emily’s yearning for something simpler, creating a poignant narrative. Steven G. Martin captures both the humor and heartache of everyday moments in this short, yet impactful piece.

This is absolutely beautiful and truly so eye opening. What value people give to moments and time varies, but if you truly look, the magic is in the flaws and hiccups of time. Such a wonderfully crafted tale!

Everyone has different standards for what constitutes a good day. What Jessica is eager to get rid of, Emily is desperate to get back. Steven Martin tells a compelling and highly theatrical tale of grief, loss and how we pick up the pieces and continue on.

  • Philip Middleton Williams: A GOOD DAY

I loved this deceptively simple tale of Emily trying to get back something that was lost. In doing so, Steven G. Martin has all the elements of longing, grief, renewal, and even hope as seen in Emily. There is a familiar harmonic with a story we all should know, but even if the audience doesn't make the connection, the strength of the characters and their lives comes through in its universal honesty without being sentimental.
