Quirky, funny, sweet, and sad, Adam Richter's This Short Life juggles wildly different tones with confidence and makes the absolute most out of the discord. A reluctant vampire, the ghost of Emily Dickinson, and a Christian museum guard come together in a clash of outlooks, needs, and moods, punctuated by raucous physical comedy. It's like "Scooby-Doo" with a mournful sigh (and a welcome shout-out to one of the greatest New Yorker pieces of all time). Delightful.

Richter reverses every cliché about vampires with his creation of Trevor, and it's genuinely touching. Add the self-assured ghost of Emily Dickinson, some comedy, some over-the-top horror, and "This Short Life" is a standout script that would be wonderful in any festival. [24/11/1]

What a delightfully quirky meeting between two lost souls—literally and figuratively! This funny, tender, and succinct comedy takes the audience on a journey of identity toward a surprising but inevitable conclusion. Throughout, there are plenty of opportunities for physical comedy and on-stage shenanigans! I adore poor Trevor, and his unexpected friendship and bittersweet conclusion were memorable and sweet. This silly short would balance out the more horrific offerings at a spooky festival!

I laughed out loud several times in this play! Trevor is a great character and I am glad to see Richter has given him plenty of plays to shine in. This one has a sweet twist with the ghost of Emily Dickinson giving him poetic food for thought about Trevor's murderous need for living blood. It's funny, touching and beautiful all at once! I adore Trevor!

Love Trevor the Vampire: proudly narrating himself, taking offense at Emily Dickinson's jabs and considering veganism over vampirism. Richter throws in some cracking "areligious" humor too and, borrowing from Borowitz, offers up a fun short play for the Halloween season.
