The shocking cover story causes Kauselya’s mother to accompany her back to Australia to meet the hithero unknown “bride”.

The powerful dowager, Kauselya, finds out her sons who were entrusted with their father’s legacy Malhotra Fashion House, had recruited a Uber driver to pose with Anil for the photo-shoot because their models had cancelled at the last minute. She is distraught that they are completely oblivious how their decision has caused a scandal in the Indian community.

Anil must now pretend to be engaged for 7 days to his ‘Gori Dulhan’, the duration of his grandmother’s stay in Australia which, Kauselya has determined, will end with a very public break-up to save the family name and pave the way for her to arrange both her sons' weddings. Unfortunately, she hadn’t counted on Anil falling in love with the unlikely bride.

11.18.24 - I just read the first 21 page sample of this charming screwball, Bollywood-esque comedy of manners from Shoba Sadler and I have to say, it was a blast. Not my usual reading fare, I was nonetheless taken with the characters, the situation and the audacity of the playwright throwing in dance numbers and physical slapstick and it all hangs together perfectly. A terrific start to what I imagine is going to be an absolute hoot of a play.
