THE MASHUGANAS follows YEHUDAH SCHMUKLER, a single 31-year-old Lakewood yeshiva bochur whose religio-cultural foundations are shaken by his perpetually disconnected, apathetic, misunderstood experiences in trying to find a shidduch (wife). Yehudah is already disillusioned at the start of the play - a hundred matches and not one "match" - and his disillusionment becomes more desperate and pronounced as he encounters the "final bosses" of the Orthodox Jewish matchmaking world. Specialized matchmakers, wizened rabbis, everyone urgently trying to figure out how to get Yehudah married.
