Recommendations of The Eighth Deadly Sin

  • Ken Love: The Eighth Deadly Sin

Kieran Khanna's "The Eighth Deadly Sin" reminded me of the "The Summoning of Everyman" and Sartre's "No Exit" - but without Sartre's gazing into the abyss. Part morality tale, part allegory, funny and - ultimately - so entertaining. A necessary work for these troubled times.

Kieran Khanna has confirmed to me in this large-cast ten minute play that yes, in fact, if the seven deadly sins got together, Envy would be everyone's least favorite. I enjoyed the way Khanna turns this short play from fun, over-the-top personification of the seven deadly sins into an investigation of purpose for this new titular Eighth Deadly Sin. Surprisingly cute for a play set in Hell!

What the Hell? There’s a new kid in town? I guess seven deadly sins isn’t enough, or at least according to this fun little piece by Kieran Khanna. It’s imaginative, funny and very insightful. This would make a very nice palette cleanser for some Christmas festival and be very helpful for Santa‘s naughty or nice list.

Who knew a play set in hell could be so refreshingly uplifting? This archetype-driven play holds no punches, showing us humanity at its worst... but, when a new sin arrives to interrupt the old, damning routine, shows us there's room for hope and growth. For me, it evoked the hope at the bottom of Pandora's Box, coming in to make the pain and pestilence of the world bearable. It's goofy, providing actors the opportunity to make uniquely strong choices. This script is an over-the-top good time!

  • Matthew Weaver: The Eighth Deadly Sin

Bonkers concept and bonkers play, Khanna clearly has fun. Love that it's an almost-wholesome twist on characters who are usually seen as destructive forces banding together to assist someone in need/solve a mystery. There's so much room for fun here within Kieran's words, and audiences will have an absolute blast.

Seeing the seven deadly sins put aside their…tendencies? affinities for? SINS, I guess, really…is quite delightful and wholesome. The actors (and the audience) will have a great time going hogwild embodying these sinners. A lot of fun freedom for designers to be found here, as well.

  • James Perry: The Eighth Deadly Sin

A sharp, entertaining exploration of self-awareness, human flaws, and the absurdity of existence.

Ha! If only the film Se7en had been this much to the point, it might have saved Paltrows head!
I love how brilliantly each character lives up to their name and their sin. Then a new, mysterious and confused sin arrives and immediately changes the whole ambience of hell.
'The chick I met on Singe' Brilliant!!

Well this is fun! I love that the Seven Deadly Sins bicker and needle each other like human siblings - and also like human siblings, come together when they need to. (I think the pettiness of Envy was my favorite.) What dream opportunities for actors to run wild with!

11.29.24 - I had a blast with this funny little piece about the Seven Deadly Sins meeting their newest member. I loved the fact that these self-absorbed little evils are able to put aside their destructive ways and team up to help find a purpose for the newcomer. Kieran Khanna may have just given us the perfect Eighth Deadly Sin here: Intent! By giving the others a reason to abandon their ways for a new purpose, it may provide a new hell. After all, that road IS paved with good intentions...
