A truly fun comedy for fans of variety sketch shows such as SNL, Mad TV, Friday's, and the like. The dialogue is sharp and the script balances between the wackiness of the characters mixed with the high stakes of an incredibly dark situation in such a way that keeps the story fun without ever going into the distasteful. Great pick for any theatre companies that want a new show that can be enjoyed by a wide variety of audiences while having an edge.

MARSHALL LOGAN GIBBS has a real feel for comedy. “This Show Was Supposed To Be Funny” is a delightful comedy with drama (a kid with a bomb and gun). The characters are interesting and the actors, who are cast in the roles, will absolutely love it.This is a play that will be a favorite of audiences. I highly recommend it be read and produced. Having gotten the chance to direct this script and work with Marshall directly, I can say just how brilliant of a piece this play is. It touches on everything you want to explore with a script about SNL and how it affects the bodies and minds of the people working on the show. You know exactly who each of these characters are from the get go, and it can veer from laugh out loud funny to heartbreaking at any moment.

A tight script with a strong cast of characters that will keep your attention throughout the entire run. I never thought that the concept of throwing SNL cast members into the middle of a bomb threat would be this funny. The humor, poetically, is reflective of the kind of humor SNL cast members would employ outside of SNL (Seinfeld in particular). I assure you that actors will love performing this piece.

Absolutely loved this brilliant play. Gibbs captures the feel of a late night comedy show right off the bat and quickly builds characters that you can love and, yes, sometimes be annoyed by (purposefully!). However, the main plot then begins and kicks this play into another gear. Through it all, we still get excellent character development set against building tension from the events that have been set in motion. I absolutely can't wait to see this staged at some point. Highest recommendation!

The stakes could not be higher in this explosive dramedy by the talented Marshall Logan Gibbs! I had the immense privilege of facilitating a talkback for an early draft of this play through DMV Playwrights, and I am blown away by the playwrights' mastery of structure. The play is plotted so that it unfolds perfectly, leaving you in suspense, and the ending simply lands. Every character is well-developed, and you will find yourself on the edge of your seat, wondering what will blow open next.

This is a very dark yet high-energy comedy that gives you a well-deserved ending. It's the kind of show that will make you feel shell-shocked in the best way possible. The comedy and drama in the play blend together well, rising the tension that it becomes so thick you can cut it with it a knife (blow it up in an explosion).
