I have a weakness for comedies that look at iconic figures and events through modern sensibilities -- and "Drummer Boy" is hilarious! I will never hear that song the same way again.

GENIUS! This hysterical new Christmas classic needs to be produced in all holiday festivals! Audiences will be in stitches... and not the ones poor Mary needs after being "torn to shreds."

Look, you can enjoy the "Little Drummer Boy" song all you want, but the fact is a drum solo is a terrible gift for a newborn. Lisa Dellgiarino Feriend's short comedy is EXACTLY how I would envision the encounter to take place. "Drummer Boy" is bursting at the seams with laugh-out-loud jokes and terrific conflict between the young musician and the parents (well, mom and step-dad) of Christ.
What a great addition to any night of holiday shorts! Bravo!

What a bracing, refreshing, and wildly funny antidote to the traditional holiday treacle. That damned little drummer boy is lucky to get away from Mary and Joseph unscathed as he wakens the finally sleeping Baby Jesus. From the funny set up to the plethora of witty lines, I can't stress enough how delightfully and consistently hilarious this play is.

11.26.25 - I'm actually mad at myself that I didn't read this sooner. This was freaking hysterical. So many great lines "Was there room at the hospital?" "I'm a real estate mogul." "But I have a number of follow up questions to that." In the play these are all LAUGH OUT LOUD funny! Lisa, this was wonderful! Mary and Joseph come across like actual new parents here and I laughed my ass off at it. Produce this total winner now!

DRUMMER BOY reads as if the meta-rattling, self-aware humor of Monty Python crosses paths with the playful yet wholesome deconstruction/reconstruction of faith via Pete Holmes. This Mary and Joseph will connect with parents - doing the comedically unexpected out of pure exhaustion - and the eponymous lad himself will connect with everyone.

A hilarious holiday story, especially relatable to parents and those familiar with biblical lore. Great, fast-paced dialogue and a clever, fun send-up of the First Christmas!

Drummer Boy is a hilarious and refreshing twist on the classic Christmas tale. Lisa Dellagiarino Feriend’s sharp humor and clever remix of the story creates a chaotic, laugh-out-loud scenario. A perfect fit for holiday festivals or anytime you need a good laugh. Top-notch comedy!

Lisa! Reading DRUMMER BOY on Christmas is like a chef’s kiss. This is a wonderfully funny play that simply must be programmed into every holiday themed play festival…or any time of the year as it’s simply brilliant. I always love a Lisa Dellagiarino Feriend play, but this one is top notch.

I love the way the comic pileup of killer laugh lines in this play escalates so quickly to naked hostility, which, given the circumstances -- newborn, exhausted parents, a frigging drum -- OF COURSE IT DOES.
