Dirty Kids

An eclectic group of young train hoppers depart San Francisco in hopes of reaching Myrtle Beach in time for the annual Hobo Festival. As a new member joins the pack, tensions surrounding the purpose of homeless youth come to rise. Equally plagued by vices such as fentanyl abuse and past domestic traumas, the dirty kids must come to terms with themselves, and the journey that may destroy them.

I'm continually amazed by Futrell's work. With every play, he uncovers haunting new layers beneath the surface of the American experience. Dirty Kids dives deep into that terrain, unearthing broken pieces, scattered fragments, and glimmers of hope. It's beautiful, hilarious, and absolutely gut-wrenching.

Dirty Kids dramatizes an exciting, obscure subculture in a way that feels universal. Futrell has shaped a persuasive world with an aching, dreamlike tone peopled by lovable, broken characters. You WILL care about these people and be caught up in their journey.

Futrell's language is poetic and gripping. This play is a howl for the kids that grow up too fast, a fast train ride across forgotten youth. This searing play, is filled with characters you'll remember for a while to come, but somehow feel like you've already met.
