←Recommendations of Beholder (Bascom and Isaac #5)

Sigh. Once again I am swept up in this (almost literal) whirlwind of emotion and expression. These characters are unique yet relatable, lived-in yet constantly surprising. I hope it's not reductive to say that these 10-minute plays are like a beloved comic strip come to life, allowing us to check in on characters we love and to feel charmed and warmed by their proximity.

02.10.25 - There are so many quite specific humorous touches here, I defy anybody not to get bowled over by the tsunami of charm that is Beholder. Scott Sickles has an ear for speech patterns, and the ADHD torrent of both gentlemen is as much fun to read it out loud, trying to match their manic levels as I'm sure it would be to see it live. How do you not get caught up in Bascom's rabid indignation at a perceived slight from years ago? I certainly did. As did Isaac. These two are a hoot.

I love Bascom and Isaac. They aren’t playing games, they aren’t riddled with intrigue, they aren’t on the cusp of tragedy. They are living, breathing, lovers in a loving relationship. Full of idiosyncratic moments that are both unique and universal. We can see ourselves in their interactions. And the reward for eavesdropping on them is a look at a warm, loving appreciation of one another.

SCOTT SICKLES has written the most charming and loving two-hander for audiences to enjoy. The tender back and forth, the loving touches, the ease and comfort of a strong relationship... it all works beautifully to engage readers and make us want to be friends with these characters - root for them... bridge or not. JUST LOVELY.
