Sympathizer deftly explores the complications of drawing hard lines in our attempts to find true justice. Though it's set in the early days of the #MeToo movement, its questions are universal: How do you determine who a person truly is? Can people change? And who gets to decide the meaning of solidarity? Ready to see a production of this play!!

With this piece, Collins sticks a hand into the wound brought to light by the #MeToo movement and probes its raw edges. Sexual assault/abuse is at the core of #MeToo. However, an unfortunate offshoot has been the realization that someone you trust may not be who you thought they were. We see this with Calla’s complicated and conflicting emotions around Ty even while knowing he’s guilty. And we see this with how the other girls react to Mandy’s own story of assault. Truly a provocative and emotional story that is surely (sadly) relatable to many.

"Sympathizer" deals with volatile social issues in ways that constantly surprise and force you to challenge your preconceptions. It is written with the freshness and vitality of youth and offers an array of layered characters for actors to sink their teeth into. I'm excited to see this play produced.
