Zeke is trying his hardest to keep Blue Mountain Sleepaway Camp afloat this summer as their assistant-director, but when the head camp director is missing, his camp counselors (the audience) can’t remember their morning duties, and there are bloody messages in strange formations spread throughout the forest trails? Maybe this quarter-life-crisis summer gig wasn’t worth it after all. We’ll spend summer camp on the mountain with Zeke, holding staff meetings, awarding camp badges to brave “camp counselors” (the audience), and working together to unravel the mystery of what the hell the Cabin 6 boys are doing out in the woods every night.

Equal parts hilarious and horrifying, I was impressed with the way Abe established the horror aspects of this play in a solo show context. Zeke is a compelling, unhinged main character, and it was a blast to spend some time with him. I also enjoyed the exploration of the human need to feel cool, important, seen, and worthwhile, and the use of satire and heightened theatricality to explore what happens when those needs aren't fulfilled.

This script kicks ass. Such a smart and playful spin on the one-person show form, while also being an engrossing character study and a skin-crawling piece of horror theatre. Johnson's genre moves are imperceptibly subtle until they're jumpscare-loud, and the pace of progression is basically perfect. I gotta see this show!

An absolutely brilliant solo play. This is a play about young people being responsible for other young people. This is a play about the magic of summer camp and how important it is to find a place to feel cool. This is a play where we witness a character's descent into utter madness. This role is a tour-de-force for actors. Johnson does a great job at keeping things tense and mysterious and finding the best ways to reveal information. This is a play that can be done so simply. I'd love to see it produced.
