In a not-so-distant future, a powerful AI named Eros—born from a mysterious alien artifact known as The Scroll— guides humanity’s final, desperate attempt to avoid their own extinction as an asteroid hurtles toward their planet. Onboard the scout ship, four young crew members believe they are the children of Earth’s last astronauts. But as they travel toward Proxima Centauri, they begin to question their memories, their mission, and their very nature. Are they human… or something else, entirely?

Simultaneously, scenes from Earth’s past reveal Eros’s rise to power, the dismantling of religion, and the morally fraught choices that shaped this new world. As past and future converge, Eros explores identity, faith, memory, and the blurred lines between human and machine in an era ruled by synthetic logic.

This play takes its moments to really poke at the audience to think deeply about just how fickle our humanity is. On the flip side, this is a very whimsical and fun play, full of rich characters for actors to play. Each character is explored just enough to give us a sense of their motivations, which comes full circle at the very end. Anyone playing Eros will have a fun time!

This philosophically driven sci-fi comedy asks hefty questions surrounding the nature of humanity, the utility of religion and the future of our species. It's entertaining and thought-provoking. I love how the alternating scenes from the past inform the present. Perry gives us just enough hints to be curious of the characters' true nature without spoiling the reveal. A lot of fun to be had with this romp through time and space. Long live Eros!

Take a cool speculative premise, add a dash of mythology, dump in a TON of comedy, and a pinch of metatheatricality, and you have this funky sci-fi epic that spans time and space! I love the worldbuilding that sends us from the past, to the future, and back again, adding context and subtext as we go. The speculative angle is clear, with visions of today's world magnified and expanded to absurd limits. There are tons of great one-liners in there that will keep you thinking while you're laughing!
