It is a four-character comedy depicting Julie and Matt's first date and their inner thoughts expressed out loud by their corresponding individual inner voices. Julie has hit the proverbial wall and is led here because of her frustration from too many online dates gone wrong. Matt has grown accustomed to online dates going wrong and is willing to give this first date with Julie a fair try. Even though Julie and Matt do not hear each other's inner voices, these two middle-aged adults are influenced and guided by their own individual inner voices who persuade them to take a risk to see if this first date can possibly lead to finding true love at this point in their lives.

This play is a clever, charming comedy about modern dating. By theatricalizing the characters’ inner voices with their own on stage characters, Ana Guigui captures the funny tug-of-war between caution and hope that happens inside all of us. Three words: Warm, witty, and sweet.

I saw this play as part of the 2025 Boston Theater Marathon, and I thought it was absolutely delightful. I enjoyed how much more dynamic and textured the play feels with the inclusion of the inner voices beyond Julie and Matt, and how grounded and relatable the depicted experience felt. What a fun and charming play.
