  • Ross Tedford Kendall: Neurologia

I really appreciate when playwrights tackle the horror genre in a thoughtful way, and this one achieves that and more. It slowly builds, allowing you to know the characters, while keeping a general unease that you can't quite pinpoint. The autism angle is worked in really well, and I was intrigued at how this puts you in Phil's position, while also giving time to the others to bring up doubts. All in a really theatrical setting. Great work!

  • Daniel Prillaman: Neurologia

I don't re-read loglines before beginning a play on my list, so imagine my surprise and growing dread as I realized what I thought would be a drama about ableism and neurodivergence in relationships into a familial horror of "Hereditary" proportions...about those things. Utterly terrifying and unique, and an absolute fever dream of battling (in multiple ways) for your own bodily autonomy. God, reading this floored me. I can only imagine how scary this would be live.

What a wild ride this is! I love the deep dive into ableism and its consequences. Neurologia explores several neurological issues (autism, epilepsy and MS) in such dramatic and theatrical ways as a brilliant ghost story. This would be such a fun show t see that simultaneously gives us so much to discuss afterwards. Well done!

If Chuck Tingle's Camp Damascus taught us anything, it's that the horror genre needs more autistic protagonists. If William Meurer's Neurologia has taught me anything, it's that horror plays that discuss and represent disability can be just as biting, gripping, and electrifying as any other take on the genre, and can even soar to new heights of tension and poignancy through meaningful engagement with what makes life on the spectrum so challenging--and nuanced. Don't miss out on this work of art.
