if you were a Beatle-obsessed child at any point in your life, you need to read this. if you care about fan culture & transformative work...READ THIS. the density of jokes per minute in this play is incredible, especially in a comedy with this much heart.

  • Sam Heyman: baby, it's you

    "This setup smells like Lennon"

Sarah Jae Leiber knows her way around the funny, sad, and complicated emotions of fandom, young womanhood, and being a person who feels deeper than most. "baby, it's you" is an episodic masterclass of both Beatles parody and docu-drama, placing us in the shoes of a quartet of variably devoted Beatles fans and walking us briskly through their lives. Character voices leap off the page. Leiber nails the uncanny silliness of the Beatles as well as those who love them.

  • A.J. Ditty: baby, it's you

A brilliant send-up (and celebration of) fan culture, this absolutely hilarious and heartfelt play will stick with you long after the backstage shenanigans and failed genetic material heists have faded. A sharp and unrelenting look at love and longing, Leiber will charm you with parody one minute only to gut-punch you with the deep sadness at the heart of her characters the next. A perfect fit for any theater company regardless of their feelings about Paul McCartney (but also, come on, it's PAUL!!!)

  • Zoe Senese-Grossberg: baby, it's you

A perfect delightful hysterical pastiche with such heart and such sharp humor. I loved every second of reading this and how it retained both heart and brilliant comedic timing. Has stayed with me long after and I dream to see it staged- a gentle and honest examination of fan culture that having followed Leiber as a writer feels a PERFECT thesis of her (all brilliant) work.
