The clock is ticking down on an impending birthday, and amidst the maelstrom of family life, two parents try to shape the chaos into order before the guests arrive!!! Yeah, good luck with that. Brathwaite creates a beautifully detailed realistic familial environment before catapulting us into even greater mayhem. As a stand-alone or a prelude to a larger story, SOULGLASS is a thrill ride that finds magic in the everyday.

I saw this script performed as a reading at the Midwest Dramatists Conference. So real! The husband/wife conflict is based in the very daily stuff that we all get caught up but that makes us who we are. Extremely relatable but a super fun twist, Brathwaite deftly engages her audience making them think it's all about one thing but...looks are deceiving. This should be produced anywhere!

“Soulglass” is an urgent display of desperation and expectations revealing the challenges of womanhood. It’s not a question if she has a good mate because she does, but is he a good mate? Does he fully understand and appreciate her roles? Motherhood. Wife. Employee. Individual. In that order. But he will painfully find out. It’s a booby trap balled up in a big glass marble. This scene is fun and imaginative with frenetic energy. I can’t wait to see the full length.
    Excellent, Ms. Brathwaite.
