In MOVEMENT OF LIFE, set in a near future with professional grief coordinators and collaborative memorial dances, town resident Jasmine decides to plan a public ceremony to honor the dead—driven by the secret she is harboring about her connection to the shooting. While local mascot Little Drummer Bear supports Jasmine's efforts, Alan rejects the shared "American" rituals as being in conflict with his Jewish beliefs, and others struggle with how to reconcile their personal grief in a public space. Their battle over the proper commemoration raises questions about the purpose these memorials serve in the community: Who are they for and who gets to decide?
