Set in the Great Lakes region of 1970s Pennsylvania, “Creek’s Edge” explores the intersection between what we inherit, what we choose for ourselves, and the consequences of navigating the two. Jack Forton, a war veteran struggling with mental illness, is determined to provide for his family and live up to the farm legacy he has married into. Jack’s daughter, Beth, yearns to break from her rural roots and go to college, while her older brother, Tommy, must straddle the threat of Vietnam with his fear that Jack will ruin the farm his grandfather started. Annie, Jack’s wife, is managing the demands of her teenage children while coping with a high-risk pregnancy, her husband’s mental illness, and the residue from an earlier love affair. As the family navigates these interpersonal issues, Jack, becomes convinced he can turn around their financial problems and makes an expensive farm equipment purchase on credit. This controversial decision and the ensuing course of events it sets in motion, put Jack and every member of his family in crisis and risks endangering the safety of an entire community as a once-joyful creek becomes the site of reckoning.
