  • Paul Donnelly: The Divorce Reunion

How do adult siblings recover from the manipulation of their bitterly divorced parents? This brother and sister lead disparate lives. Their longing for connection is disrupted by misplaced blame and bitterness. Their initial interactions are cagey and defensive. Through a series of difficult reveals their walls come down and we are left with the hope that they can start anew. These characters are brilliantly illuminated by the honesty of Heyman's dialogue and perspective.

  • Aly Kantor: The Divorce Reunion

This is a messy, tension-filled, but ultimately heartwarming little play about two former step-siblings and the broken adults who chose to be right rather than allow their kids to be happy. It's loaded with tiny reveals that evoke that fantastic 'surprising but inevitable' feeling that everyone loves in a play. The action of the play is vulnerability, and I loved watching each character slowly but surely reveal their deepest wounds. Because of this intimacy, this would be easily staged anywhere!

  • Mike Byham: The Divorce Reunion

Family dynamics are always interesting because they can be complex - even more so when there is a blended family involved. Ratchet this natural tension up a little with divorce and forced separation (following years of forced cohabitating) and you have Sam Heyman's The Divorce Reunion. Well-crafted with reveals at just the right time, this short is certain to please audiences. Heartfelt and honestly-portrayed characters drive the narrative. Wonderful.

  • Brent Alles: The Divorce Reunion

The idea of family is perhaps more diverse and complicated than ever these days. Heyman brings an insightful look into those factors with this piece. As we are privy to this discussion between siblings, we learn much about their lives and also about how people deal with family trees with winding and sometimes twisted branches. Excellent dialogue... a play that will perhaps leave you thinking about your own family relationships when it's all said and done.

  • Matthew Weaver: The Divorce Reunion

Heyman with his signature thoughtful take on adult relationships, here two adult siblings reunited after their separation by divorce. Virtual strangers find their way back to their younger selves and try to make sense of their shared history via their differing perspectives. Are they older? Yes. Wiser? Who is? More mature? Thankfully, not. Is there a path forward. In Heyman's capable hands, we will it to be so.

  • Hilary Bluestein-Lyons: The Divorce Reunion

A very interesting take on the affects of divorce on adult children. Heyman delves deeply into the relationship of half-siblings, lost time, and estrangement in this wonderfully written and heartfelt short play.

  • Morey Norkin: The Divorce Reunion

A heart-warming story of half-siblings reuniting years after their parents divorced. Now as adults they are able to start unraveling the past and setting a path for the future. Humor and compassion abound in this excellent two-hander.

  • Lisa Dellagiarino Feriend: The Divorce Reunion

I love that this short play deals with the children of a divorce and not the couple who did the divorcing. It does a fabulous job showing all the ways divorce is messy and hard to navigate for the kids involved - and yet it still manages to be very funny. It's both clever and very true to life.

  • Peter Fenton: The Divorce Reunion

A very fun reverse-Parent Trap scenario in this play! I love the authenticity of the relationship between the adult half-siblings shakily rebuilding their relationship after what has felt like a lifetime of mistruths and missed connections. A great two-hander with fun roles for both players!

  • Ken Love: The Divorce Reunion

I love it when a skilled playwright gives us a work in which the dialogue flows like a rippling stream and carries the reader (or the audience) down with it. The trick, however, is to have characters who are well grounded and dimensioned. And the fact the Sam Heyman, in "The Divorce Reunion", achieves this in such a short play magnifies his talent. I look forward to reading more from this playwright.
