โ†Recommendations of Seen/Headrush

  • John David Westby: Seen/Headrush

This is a bold psychologically intimate two-hander about visibility, aging, desire, and asymmetrical attachment. The two halves - Seen and Headrush - create a highly theatrical, modern, steamy point/counterpoint.

Agreeing with the others that this may be one of the steamiest plays on NPX, and I love every second of it-- but not just for those reasons. This is a well-crafted, rounded, and beautifully paced story about finding and losing yourself through sex and/or someone else. So impactful. Gut wrenching! Fire!

Osmundsen's blade cuts both ways in Seen/Headrush; Love that is tender and sweet, heartbreak that feels inevitable, all at the mercy of the tyranny of our shifting moods. There are no winners or losers, only lessons learned and the bruising that comes along with them.

Itโ€™s not often when you read a play where the characters make questionable decisions, and you understand fully, viscerally, every one of them. I saw myself in the dual protagonists of seen/headrush, in a way that was both deeply uncomfortable and deeply illuminating. This play got me thinking of the impacts Iโ€™ve had on past partners, and the harm Iโ€™ve caused on both sides. I love these characters, this plot and the empathy and humanity that Dave brings to this deeply illuminating play.
