THAT ONE SONG BY THAT ONE BAND

10-MINUTE: A casual icebreaker question about music triggers a shared existential meltdown between two people, causing their language and reality to devolve. A fast-paced, absurdist comedy that explores the anxiety of favorites, the fragility of social performance, and the mystery of the word orange.

A seemingly benign question sends Joe into a mad existential spiral into which Liz is inexorably drawn. Their descent is quite amusing, as is Liz's resourceful mechanism for pulling them back from the brink. Funniest of all is the surprising twist ending which upended all of my assumptions about the situation and their relationship.

Love a script with a good meltdown in a public space - with a wonderful twist at the end! Ava Love Hanna does it again delivering fun characters, a tale as old as time, and . . . wait what was the third thing?!?

What a crazy, brilliant idea! The simple question of “what’s your favorite song” begins a meltdown of epic comic proportions. And as crazy as it is, this play is also relatable. Questions about favorites instantly set us up for judgement. Panic ensues. Ava Love Hanna has created a comic gem that is likely to become an audience favorite wherever it plays.
